The mixing of designer with custom made pieces from their wardrobe department ensures the looks are fantasy like as well as keeping with the time. The real style ‘stars’ of the show are the jewels. Designers and the ‘It’ bag.

Hello Readers,

I’m sure you’ve all noticed before I have that ‘It’ bags certainly aren’t established overnight. Yet it seems like every Designer label has an ‘It’ bag. Just as Jennifer Lawrence shines for Dior, Diane Kruger is a Chanel devote and Kim/Kanye love Givenchy, all official/unofficial spokespeople, it seems like every fashion house has that one special bag. The one you peer through the shop glass at because you simply can’t go into the actual store due to judgement. The one that every girl saves up all her pennies for. The bag always featured in their advertisements. Others are ‘trendy’ but these are ‘classic’. The one you refer to as an ‘investment’ so people don’t think your crazy for spending so much.

However the problem with the ‘It’ bag is that ‘everyone’ (and their mother) has one. While fashion is all about pushing boundaries and being abstract (or so I’m told) how come we all have to have an ‘it’ bag? Whether it be the striped duffle bag from countryroad I got for my twelth birthday because everyone in my year at school had one or a quilted, lambskin Chanel does the ‘it’ bag lose it’s magic when we all have one?

I think it’s important when buying a popular bag to consider the style, size and materials that suit you. While I love the classic Chanel bag in black I really love it in grey. Small points of differentiation will set you apart. Another problem with buying an ‘it’ bag is that often it is badly recreated into knock off’s. The last thing you want is for your thousand dollar bag to be made to look cheap. Avoid designer logo prints as these tend to look the cheapest. As time goes on different sizes, styles and ‘makes’ of the bag will come out, choose a vintage pre owned bag and it’s far more likely you’ll look chic and unique.

Regardless of whether your stick to an original version or you go all out in a print, the magic of the ‘it’ bag is the way it makes you feel. So while an ‘it’ bag won’t make you an ‘it’ girl’, having the ‘it’ bag can boost your confidence in the way you style and feel about yourself. Start saving!

Here’s a list of what I consider a few designer’s ‘It’ bag…

Balenciaga – City Bag

Louis Vouitton – Neverfull Tote Bag

Alexander Wang – Rocco Bag

Chanel – 2.55 flap bag

Celine – Luggage tote

Dior – Lady Bag

Chloe – Marcie Bag

Phillip Lim 3.1 – Pashli Bags

Tricky Trend – Blue & Black

Hello Readers,

Problem: Pulling on tights thinking their black when their really navy? If you wear a navy skirt and black top it all just blends? Have no idea how to wear both colours in the same outfits?

– The tone of colour is important. Choose bright royal blues to pair with black rather than navy’s that almost look black. Choosing a black looking navy looks like you can’t style your colours right.

– Break the colour up. Using a thick gold or white belt to break up an outfit as it won’t visually clash as much.

– Dark Navy and black accessories or in moderation in the same outfit will work. A kimono with navy fringe and black flats in an outfit won’t be the same eye sore as wearing black shorts and a navy top.

Hope these tips have helped!

How to dress like… Carrie Bradshaw

Hello Readers,

My love for those four girls living in a big city lives on. I’ve become obsessed. What I love about what Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha wear is how bold it is and how much it pushes boundaries. Particularly at the moment with a lot of trends focusing on neutral colours and mono chromatics I admire fellow fashion bloggers who go out of their way to style outside the box. Here’s a modern take on an outfit for those who adore Carrie Bradshaw.

Billboards 2015 Best Dressed Debrief

Hello Readers,

The Billboard music awards have been and gone. Phew! There are so many music awards it’s hard to keep up! I was really really disappointed with the lack of great looks on the carpet. A lot of people just got it terribly wrong. Here are the few that I actually like/don’t mind!

 Taylor Swift

An obvious choice amongst the crazy, kooky and just plain bad outfits. The white jumpsuit accentuates  her height and figure. The cut outs are a cool adition while the neckline shows a little cleavage for good ol’ T-Swizzle. While it’s not her most amazing outfit she shines in her simplicity. (Seriously almost everyone went overboard at the billboards!)

 Carissa Alvarado

I LOVED her look on the Billboards carpet, proving that less is more. Many of the other starlets went for multiple colours, textures, strange hemlines- most of the looks at the Billboards were over the top and this dress was lovely in it’s simplicity. The cut outs are in at the moment and the dress flatters her figure. Nice Job.

Tori Kelly

Again. Simplicity is winning. This long sleeved mini dress is perfect for the Billboard carpet. I love the fringe, it adds texture and the fit of the dress is perfect for her. I really like where the dress hits her. It’s perfect. Her hair suits the look and her shoes add to the simple white dress. Can’t wait to see more of her on the carpet!

tori kelly

Kendall Jenner

I’ll start this debrief by saying the shoes are not my favourite. However do they suit the look? yes. Apart from the shoes I like the tuxedo dress. Tuxedos for women have been popular on the red carpet whether in a suit or dress style. Kendall has the figure to pull it off with the V neckline balancing the all black bottom half and the embellishment is really cool.

Really disappointed – the worst dressed list will be so much funnier. If anyone’s a stylists head on over to Hollywood! They need you right now!

Styling the Stars – Kourtney Kardashion

Hello Readers,

Simply say ‘Kourtney’ and everyone knows who you me. Arguably the most famous group of sisters with the same first letter, Kourtney is the oldest of the reality bunch. Here’s how I would style her..

For a line launch..

Kourtney is a tried and true ‘mini dress’ lover. Due to her short height short shift dresses and tight bodycons are the way to go . I like how this one is textured for some interest. She’s also a fan of lace up heels such as these Isabel Marant’s, especially in nude or black. All she needs is a red lip, sleek updo and she’s good to go.

kourtney little dress  izzy marant

Dress- Lanvin ‘Fil coupe organza mini dress’ $8,670

Shoes – Isabel Marant ‘Lelie snake effect leather sandals’ $1,165

For a red carpet…

As a mother to three she would be the most likely to understand how to dress fashionably yet practically. Black jumpsuits are a staple in the Kardashion’s closet. I love love love the pop of orange from these heels which go well with her skin colour and lengthen her legs. Beautiful.

kourt halston heritagechrissie loubs

Jumpsuit: Strapless chiffon- trimmed cape crepe jumpsuit’ $748

Shoes:  Christian Louboutin ‘Iriza 100 suede pumps’ $675

For a casual lunch…

Those Kors heels are what every short girl needs, comfortable due to the platform, the style will go with most looks and the height they’ll give you is perfect. I think Kourt would look great in these shorts and I added a simple black top to complement the shorts and heels.

Shorts – Dolce & Gabbana ‘Polka dot textured stretch cotton shorts’  $845

Shoes – Michael Kors ‘Janey leather platform sandals’ $1,258

Cannes we be on the best dressed list? – Cannes film festival Best Dressed

Hello Readers,

There are in actual fact very few red carpets that allow ladies to dress in their very finest. Compared to the golden ages of hollywood there has been a ‘casualisation’ of the carpet. Slinky dresses, cut outs, low necklines have replaced big ballgowns, tiaras and white gloves. Cannes has brought back some of the sophistication and glamour, it really is a ballgown fantasy. So who perfected and who failed at the fashion stakes?

Naomi Watts in Elie Saab

This dress could have looked ridiculous, over the top and far too sparkly. On almost any other carpet it would have but at Cannes she shines. While just wearing silver and diamond pieces, Naomi follows Julianne Moore’s suit by using texture to elevate the look. The feather skirt is perfect, it doesn’t look heavy or too long but still falls into a ‘princess gown category’. Not only is the dress beautiful but Naomi wears the dress rather than the dress wearing Naomi. I cannot get enough of this look!

Natalie Portman in Dior

Red on the red carpet has been a theme lately but I love this pared back look Natalie brings to Cannes. In comparison to many of the taller actresses and models who walk the carpet I’m glad Natalie went with a streamlined look as I feel like a large gown would have swamped her. The earrings pulled the look from average to good. She really ruled classical simplicity on this carpet.

Julianne Moore in Georgio Armani Prive

Redheads just wear emerald so, so well. At Cannes this year, Julianne blew me away. Despite her dress being black it was textural, those feathers and beading were incredible. The neckline was a great choice. However my favourite aspect of her look was those earrings. The emerald shone against her red hair and smoky eye look. She went intense in comparison to many of the actresses who wore lighter looks and ‘no make up’ make up. Loved it.

Sienna Miller in Lanvin

Navy with a red lip must be one of the most classical assembles on the carpet. Especially if it’s a blonde in the ensemble. The fitting of the dress is incredible. Probably Natalie’s biggest rival in terms of how similar their looks were, simple silhouette, classic colour and chic hair, Natalie wins for me as I don’t like the black bow detailing on Sienna’s Lanvin dress. All that being said Sienna has really upped her fashion game, with many of her recent looks inferior to this one.

siena miller cannes

 Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci

I tossed and turned about Lupita being on this list. I may have an unpopular opinion but I don’t love the green colour that much. While it looks better against Lupita’s colouring than most, the light green combined with the chiffon just looks a little cheap. I do however love the cut of the dress, which moved well on the carpet, and the cream/light purple embellishment. It is a work of art.

All (Swim) Suited Up.

Hello Readers,

With Summer approaching for the Northern Hemisphere I thought I’d discuss the latest trend to try. The humble bikini top is now a fashion statement with cool neoprene fabrics, graphic prints and different styles. One of my favourites is the high neck top which can easily be paired with ripped high waisted denim shorts and brown leather sandals. I love that there’s no chance of any nip slips (as long as you avoid any tops that give you side boob!) and how easily they transition from beach to cafe. My personal favourite here is the Forever 21 top, a steal at $15.90. Style with kaftans, head scarves and lace up sandals. Have some fun in the sun and go for a crazy print.. everyone’s going to be too busy enjoying the scenery to judge I promise!

Heavy Metal – Luxe vs Less

Hello Readers,

I feel like at some point almost all types of jewellery go though a revolution of sorts. In recent times it’s been the ring, with the midi ring craze. Necklaces have been pared back with thing delicate chains in style, while bracelets with engraved idioms. Now it’s the humble earring’s turn. I’m loving the ode to metals with coppery, rose gold, silver, dark metals as well as the inclusion of pearls, crystals or stones. Run don’t walk to be apart of this growing trend.
