When I wear my best dressed I go to…

Hello Readers,

I say a large part of dressing up for the day is finding a good place to go, eat and Instagram  Why dress nicely if no-one will see you?! I truly believe that mixing fashion and food is always a good idea. So here is my list of cafes & coffee shops that I have personally hit up and you should too if your living in the Sydney area!

Gourmet burgers, colourful milkshakes & great coffee oh my! If you don’t live around Sydney hopefully this gives you a taste (literally and metaphorically) of what it’s like!

The Grounds of Alexandria

Alexandria

IMG_2621

The Grounds has to be one of the first cafes to really embrace the idea of decoration being just as important as the food. OOTD’ers rejoice! Between the hay, hanging plants and industrial decor there are a thousand and one ways to pose and style a mini photoshoot! (plus every other customer is taking a million photos so you won’t be the odd one out!). The incredible food made up of fresh produce (some grown onsite) is the added bonus here!

Outfit: It feels like you’ve entered a farm complete with carts of berries and a pig sty! Throw on a grey muscle tee, ripped light wash dungarees, a red knotted headband; completing the look with white high top converse

Ribs & Burgers

Chatswood

 IMG_0490

YUM. I have a thing for gourmet burgers and this place (plus it’s chips) is just the place for a casual dinner or lunch with friends. While not as unique as some of the other joints on this list it has really reasonable pricing and a lot of locations! Get your burger fix here!

Outfit: Throw on a stripy t-shirt dress or casual playsuit with brown tie up sandals and   a statement necklace to tie the look together, for a dinner with friends

Messina

Surry Hills (amongst other locations)

IMG_2749

This place makes real ice cream. The kind of flavours you could never believe possible are made here! Flavours like potato chip and red velvet are the norm and while the shops themselves aren’t instagram friendly the ice cream most definitely is!  Get excited for something #nofilter worthy ice cream snaps and head over!

Outfit: A sweet little end to a date night, wear black block-heel sandals and a nice mini dress with an updo

The Vogue Cafe

Macquarie

IMG_4578

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve instagrammed their incredibly colourful milkshakes. I’ve been asked SO many times where this place is and.. it’s quite unexpectedly in Macquarie Centre far from the ‘milkshakes in bottles’ common in suburbs such as Newtown, Surry Hills and Glebe. It’s feels like you’ve walked into a little cottage with a garden (it sounds weird but totally works!). While the famed milkshake is nutella inspired, my favourites are coffee and peanut butter!

Outfit: Let’s be real you’ll do shopping after so mid-wash skinny jeans, white chucks, grey t-shirt and a floral kimono will have you ready to spend, spend, spend once you’ve finished those milkshakes

The Boathouse/Armchair Collective

Balmoral/Shelley Beach/Mona Vale (Pictured in the header)

The views have to be the best part of The Boathouses & Armchair Collective. Located on Balmoral Beach, Shelley Beach and Mona Vale beach it won’t be just the food your ‘gramming but beautiful beach horizon shots. Decor is littered around each store much of which you can buy. Flowers and fresh fruit make up the scenery. The food is delicious, their sourdough with wild mushrooms, ricotta and spinach is a stand out.

Outfit:  Breezy, patterned beach dress with white birkenstock slides and a bikini underneath for the beach

5 months old…and getting older, wiser and a little more fabulous.

Hello Readers,

How crazy is it when you reach milestones? Not the typical ‘It’s our 35 hour anniversary’ by a couple of fifteen year olds but proper, grown up anniversaries! The thing about anniversaries is that they remind you of how far you’ve come! Let’s uncork the champagne and open a tub of ice cream and settle in for this post.

I have to be honest I have really shared much about who I am in my posts (although hopefully my humour’s come through!) A little more about me.. I started this blog during this particular year as it’s my first year out of school. I always wanted to start a  fashion blog but never had time or wasn’t interesting enough or one of a hundred other excuses. But one day I did (I know your thinking ‘obviously’) But what I’ve realised is how much I love it.

I love walking down a street or reading a magazine or flicking through instagram and being inspired. Though fashion isn’t meant to be a ‘serious’ topic there are far more than a few amazing fashion bloggers who are proving the ‘haters’ wrong. What I love about fashion is how it can change someone’s confidence or show the world a little personality. Does it seem silly to type away about it? maybe. But I once styled a friend of mine after she spoke about how much she didn’t really like shopping – she didn’t think anything looked good on her. As corny as it is I was so happy when she liked the girl she saw in the mirror. That’s kind of when I knew that if I was going to start a blog it would be for everyone, not just talking about myself or celebrities or how to look a certain way but a bit of everything.

I wanted to thank all of you for subscribing or visiting or viewing. I honestly squealed when I saw that someone had liked a post for the first time. It was crazy that anyone would want to read what I was writing. Hopefully in the future I can improve my photography skills, I want to post some OOTD’s and just keep writing interesting stuff! If you have any suggestions write it down in the comment section!

Is it it a bag or an oversized keychain? #microbags

Hello Readers,

As far as trends go generally I’m happy to jump on the trend-train in some way, shape or form. But as for the microbag trend I’m not sure If this is one I’ll try or leave. Designers such as Fend, Dior, Tory Burch, Saint Laurent, Valentino and more have brought out mini bag. Most are either small replicas of their classic bags or a simple new design.

Despite being enamoured by the idea of a teensy tiny purse (I mean if you were rich enough and had a little girl you could buy one for her one for you – adorable!) but the reality of a bag so small meant the novelty died quickly. Having done my research most will barely fit more than an iphone 6, a couple of cards and maybe a lipstick. The problem is that we already have a practical, cheaper solution – hello designer wallets and coin purses?! So do you need or leave this trend?

As a cheaper alternative to a wallet I get it but unless you have money trees and can afford your regular sized designer bag having its own designer bag I would say save the money. It might seem like a good idea but if your looking for a regular sized designer bag, the microbags are starting at around $1000 so you may as well keep saving.

From huge, oversized bags to mini microbags can a designer please come out with an exciting regular sized bag?!

That’s my request of the day! Over and out,

Fashion Hacks/Tips 101 – Part 1

Hello Readers,

Have you ever been in a sticky situation where a fashion hack is needed? Or have broken clothes that you might still want to wear but don’t know how? I have a few tips and tricks in the first instalment of my Fashion hacks/tips series so stay tuned for more!

1. Black stretchy singlet top = black mini skirt in emergencies!

Spills, dropped food and ‘the crimson wave’ are all part of life but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to be semi- prepared for it. Your top can double as a simple black mini skirt if you’ve somehow ruined your pants. I’m not saying if a tiny bit of ketch up falls on your jeans you completely change your outfit but if worst comes to worst wearing singlets when layering might come in handy one day!

2. Cut up clothes to make new ones!

I had a dress that was too short but I loved the bottom half of it. Since it was elasticated around the waist I decided to cut the top of it off. The sewn in elastic was the top of the skirt and it prevented the fabric from coming apart. However unless you intend to sew the top of the skirt I suggest you just wear this one under other tops.

3. Shoes a tad small? Get your hair dryers out girls!

Shoes that are half a size too small can be easily fixed by putting on the shoes with thick socks and using a hair dryer to warm and stretch the leather. Just be aware that if the shoes are a few sizes too small it might be best to return your shoes if their new or to sell them if their older.

4. Back to black

Perhaps this is more common sense than anything but having white socks filling my draws I tried to negotiate the tricky gap between ankle boots and denim cut offs. Even when jeans could fit in my boots while I walked around my jeans would pull out – ya feel me?! Wearing black socks just makes more sense and from far away makes your look more streamlined without the awkward peep of white.

5. Necklaces wrapped around wrists = bracelets!

If you want a chunky bracelet look wrap long necklaces around your wrist. It’s a simple but effective look if you want to add some more texture to your outfit. Super easy and cheap to do!

6. Match your pumps to your skin tone for that model height!

I love how nude pumps can give you the illusion of longer legs; being on the shorter side I can always do with looking taller, however mismatching the shade of shoes can completely throw off this illusion. Look for shoes similar to how you’d look for a foundation. Warm or cool and light and dark – it can make a huge difference.

7. Don’t like the top of a dress? Cover it with a crop

There are several dresses in my closet that I love the skirt of but don’t like the top. My friends and I often add crop tops to either cover the unflattering top half of the dress, make the dress warmer (a long sleeved crop) and to get more wear out of certain dresses. This can be a really great solution if you’ve bought crop tops but aren’t so swell about exposing your midriff!

8. Winter coverings perfectly double as blankets!

Big scarves, warm capes and large woollen ponchos are perfect for the movies where they can double as blankets. This might be a bit lame but it’s come in handy a few times to wear a blanket-like cape. Trust me! Try it!

Do you have any great fashion tips or tricks? Comment below!

The Sizing Debacle.

Hello Readers,

I read an article recently about ‘Kookai’ a French brand that’s become a necessary part of any party girl’s wardrobe. I kid you not any club on the weekend, at least half the girls will be wearing something from Kookai. And the fact that half of these girls will be wearing Kookai is part of the issue the article brings up. The article finds the idea that there are only two sizes aimed at petite women quite silly when the average girl is a lot bigger. I understand that every brand has niches but two sizes- 0,2 and I think in some products 4 leaves a bit to be desired in the ‘variety’ category.

While I actively follow the debate on stores shaming larger or smaller girls with sizes that either are too big or too small I wanted this article to be about the importance of a number. Regardless of the store whether they use european system, they start with 0 or 8, these numbers will still carry meaning. With smaller sizes being seen as an achievement and a larger size considered an alarm to start eating more salads and exercising.

But should we put so much emphasis on letters and numbers on clothes? I think we have to stop convincing ourselves to squeeze into smaller jeans or to deatox to fit in a dress we wore back in high school. I came to this realisation when I was umming and arring between two pairs of jeans, one a little too tight and the other a little lose. The pride in me convinced me that I should keep the smaller size.

The result? I rarely ever wear the jeans and if I do am constantly worried about the muffin top that has been created. Girls, it’s time to ignore the connotations to do with size. All it is, is a number and sizes change so much between companies you may be the desirable small in one but get a size 14 somewhere else. What fits best is the size that looks good on you.
