Spring has sprung and you know what that means?! Decluttering videos and blog posts galore! While I clean out my wardrobe every once in a while I find that rather than needing to throw things out I’ve just forgotten they existed! It’s kind of cool to find an old piece in the back of a wardrobe or drawer and treat it like it’s brand new! So rather than a decluttering blogpost I decided to do something a little different.
Here are my top tips on wearing all the clothes in your wardrobe..
1.Open wardrobe system
I cannot stress this enough! If you can see it your 80% more likely to wear it! (okay I made that up) but if you can a walk-in-wardrobe, a wardrobe with fold out doors or a system (like an IKEA pack) will remind you of what you have. Simply being able to look at all your clothes each morning will help you to remember the pieces you have and can help you avoid buying things you don’t need. I find if clothes are packed away or somewhere you can’t see them you tend to just wear a couple of tops and pants that you know you like.
2. Have a ‘Best of’ every month
Choose 5-10 pieces that you really want to try to wear during that month. It’s sort of like a capsule wardrobe on a smaller and shorter scale. Choose pieces you haven’t worn in a while and you can challenge yourself to incorporate these into your everyday outfits. If there’s a piece you find you aren’t gravitating too or can’t fit in with the rest of your wardrobe you can use figure out what you might want to donate or throw out.
3. Plan your weekday wardrobe
This seems such a trivial thing to plan but if your rushing in the morning let’s be real it’s easier to put on a simple outfit that you know looks good on you! I mean some mornings who has time to pick out fun accessories and interesting shoes? Sometimes it’s easier to just wear a gold necklace and brown sandals.. but this is the kind of thing that can get you stuck in a fashion rut. At the start of your week put together your outfits – Place accessories over the hanger and put on outwear of the top or dress your going to wear. Have a spot in your wardrobe for your outfits. Even if it’s colder and you, say, have to change out shorts for jeans at least you have a base for your outfit. With a little bit of planning you can then wear more of your clothes AND you can save time in the morning!
4. Document your favourite outfits
Doing an OOTD on Instagram, taking a picture of your outfit or make a mental note of your favourite outfits. Having them documented means that if you don’t know what to wear or your in a hurry you can look back and throw on that outfit rather than just putting on a simple all black outfit or an outfit you wear all the time. Plus your wearing more of your wardrobe!
5. Be realistic
While all of these tips hopefully help you wear all the clothes in your closet, these tips are for the clothes you LOVE. While it’s easy to get caught up in fashion blogger world where it feels like every blogger has an endless wardrobe you have to remember that many can borrow clothes, get sent things and this is their job so they are bound to have a lot of clothes. Get rid of anything torn, broken, something you haven’t worn in the past year and anything that you don’t like to wear. Throw it out, donate it or swap clothes with some friends!
