Sneaker Revolution.

Hello Readers,

The fashionable sneaker/runner/jogger/tennis shoe is upon us.  I’m gathering that most of you at Christmas or a self-given present would have recieved some sort of gift of the Nike/Adidas/New Balance kind. I’m enjoying this trend immensely as it makes long distance walking days comfortable (shopping sprees I tell you!). I recently developed blisters while away in Tokyo and the only shoes I could wear were some Nike runners so I’m officially sold on the trend AND I can say that a shoe pretty much saved my life.

To be fair though not any sneaker will do. There are some which will always only be relegated to actual sporting activities. It’s more about the brand of shoe than a particular style. Look for stripes, ticks or letters.

While it seems every generation has it’s ‘sneaker of chic’ right now almost anything and everything goes. With haute couture jumping on the bandwagon you know this is one trend you have get in touch with. Fashion points for cool prints, special edition versions and multiple pairs!

Gorman. Top 5.

Hello Readers,

Gorman is a quirky Australian brand that I’ve begun to really appreciate. Getting older and wiser I’ve realised the value in spending a little more on clothes and getting more use out of them. I’m not talking thousands of dollars but choosing quality that you might not find in chain stores. I don’t usually go for anything too left of centre but these finds push the envelope enough for you to feel just a little bit cool.

  1. Tectonic Skirt – $169

gorman tectonic skirt

I love this skirt as a relaxed version of the American Apparel skater skirt. I think you can do a lot more layering with this piece. It’s also easy for winter as a statement, contrast the skirt against black leggings, black top and wooly sweater with oxfords.

2. Jaguar Shark Tee – $89

gorman shark tee

I’ve been really loving metallic on t shirts, whether it be gold dots or silver arrows or the red/pink combination on this top. So easy to pair with wet-look black jeans or light wash ripped boyfriend jeans. I’ve been loving novelty yet chic t shirts lately.

3. Zissou Sunglasses – $169

zissou sunglasses

Sunglasses might just be my favourite accessory of the Summer. Quay’s ‘My Girl’ sunglasses have been so popular, along with mirrored shades and clear frames. While the price is a little more expensive than most sunglasses you’ll be reaching for these all Summer!

4. Garden Bed Shift Dress – $269

garden bed shift

One of the most striking features of Gorman’s clothes are that they often create several prints per season and you can buy them in socks version, dresses, skirts, hats, tops, pants and more. I had to throw in one of these dresses which you could easily dress up or down depending on the occasion. Worth the splurge for how functional it is.

5. Lost Treasure bikini set – Top $109, Bottoms $99

lost treasure gorman set

The bralette swim top (I honestly don’t know any other way to describe it!) has been a red hot trend this Summer. I’ve seen so many on Gigi Hadid in her Seafolly promotions so by default if one of the hottest models around are wearing them you’ve got to jump on the trend. This is quite a basic version but that print on bondi beach with a tan and flowy white cover up would make a great beach outfit.

How to wear all the clothes in your wardrobe & love it!

Hello Readers,

Spring has sprung and you know what that means?! Decluttering videos and blog posts galore! While I clean out my wardrobe every once in a while I find that rather than needing to throw things out I’ve just forgotten they existed! It’s kind of cool to find an old piece in the back of a wardrobe or drawer and treat it like it’s brand new! So rather than a decluttering blogpost I decided to do something a little different.

Here are my top tips on wearing all the clothes in your wardrobe..

1.Open wardrobe system

I cannot stress this enough! If you can see it your 80% more likely to wear it! (okay I made that up) but if you can a walk-in-wardrobe, a wardrobe with fold out doors or a system (like an IKEA pack) will remind you of what you have. Simply being able to look at all your clothes each morning will help you to remember the pieces you have and can help you avoid buying things you don’t need. I find if clothes are packed away or somewhere you can’t see them you tend to just wear a couple of tops and pants that you know you like.

2. Have a ‘Best of’ every month

Choose 5-10 pieces that you really want to try to wear during that month. It’s sort of like a capsule wardrobe on a smaller and shorter scale. Choose pieces you haven’t worn in a while and you can challenge yourself to incorporate these into your everyday outfits. If there’s a piece you find you aren’t gravitating too or can’t fit in with the rest of your wardrobe you can use figure out what you might want to donate or throw out.

3. Plan your weekday wardrobe

This seems such a trivial thing to plan but if your rushing in the morning let’s be real it’s easier to put on a simple outfit that you know looks good on you! I mean some mornings who has time to pick out fun accessories and interesting shoes? Sometimes it’s easier to just wear a gold necklace and brown sandals.. but this is the kind of thing that can get you stuck in a fashion rut. At the start of your week put together your outfits – Place accessories over the hanger and put on outwear of the top or dress your going to wear. Have a spot in your wardrobe for your outfits. Even if it’s colder and you, say, have to change out shorts for jeans at least you have a base for your outfit. With a little bit of planning you can then wear more of your clothes AND you can save time in the morning!

4. Document your favourite outfits

Doing an OOTD on Instagram, taking a picture of your outfit or make a mental note of your favourite outfits. Having them documented means that if you don’t know what to wear or your in a hurry you can look back and throw on that outfit rather than just putting on a simple all black outfit or an outfit you wear all the time. Plus your wearing more of your wardrobe!

5. Be realistic

While all of these tips hopefully help you wear all the clothes in your closet, these tips are for the clothes you LOVE. While it’s easy to get caught up in fashion blogger world where it feels like every blogger has an endless wardrobe you have to remember that many can borrow clothes, get sent things and this is their job so they are bound to have a lot of clothes. Get rid of anything torn, broken, something you haven’t worn in the past year and anything that you don’t like to wear. Throw it out, donate it or swap clothes with some friends!

What are some of your top tips for wearing all of your wardrobe?

Much love,

NY, I love you!

Hello Readers,

A little more New York Spring/Summer fashion week for you! Check out my last post here! If I ever become a stylist or have anything to do with an awards show there are several haute designers I would go to and these three top my list! I can’t wait to see these dresses on some of the biggest stars come January and February for Awards season! Here are a few of my thoughts..

Carolina Herrera

Stop and smell the roses. The delicate pastel colours, combined with ladylike crop tops, skirts and dresses were beautiful. There were pretty embellishments, chiffon and ruffles. There was a modern twist with cut out lines and pleating. It all played on a similar theme that flowed throughout the whole show. Love, love and love!

carolina herrera 2015

Feathers, sparkle, tulle and everything of opulence was on call at the Marchesa show. Big, elaborate gowns walked down the runway and my heart raced a hundred miles an hour. I can just imagine how many of these will grace carpets. The only problem with the show was that it lacked a bit of cohesion. There were black gothic inspired gowns, romantic soft layered gowns and white jumpsuits. It was a bit all over the place.

Oscar De La Renta

Oscar, King of Red Carpet Dresses, did not disappoint. The runway was put together well with the focus on fiery red Mediterranean/Spanish inspired dresses paired with espadrilles and gowns with big bows in pastel colours completed with taffeta fabric. What tied two seemingly opposite inspirations together were tea length dresses with taffeta skirts and sexy bustier top, combining ladylike with a little bit of skin baring was a perfect mesh of different ideas. What a show!

Did you love these shows as much as I did?

New York, New York!

Hello Readers,

Every September marks the start of gloriously new fashion from the top designers around the world! My instagram, facebook and blog feeds have been inundated with the latest looks and I’m loving what I’m seeing. Here’s an overview of a few of the shows I’ve been able to find and fash-analyse!

Diane Von Furstenberg

Lots of girly, feminine fabrics and silhouettes. Bright colours like pinks and aqua green in boho prints. Also silky, draped chiffon playsuits embellished in gold. Fringe bags were held by models and they wore hippie sandals. A nice range I just can’t see a lot of it at press releases, red carpets and formal functions. While it’s not my style I love the embellished playsuits- you could wear them with tan leather accessories for a picnic or walk in the park.

DVF nyfw

Monique Lhuillier

BAM. Explosions of colour in floral prints. I’m personally a fan of a lot of colour and lovely little mini dresses so these looks were right up my alley. These were contrasted with block colour flowy ensembles, think long skirts and puffy sleeves. Jewel toned shifts were thrown into the mix. There were some stunning red carpet worthy dresses which stylists will want to take to their a-list clients so I’m sure we’ll see a lot of Monique dresses featuring soon. This show was very wearable and appealed to all ages, particularly I can imagine, younger stars

monique lhuillier

Victoria Beckham

Lots of earthy colours and gingham which made for interesting combinations. Flowing midi skirts in neutral colours were all over the runway and so were muscle tanks with various prints. She mixed it up with cool necklines and pops of royal blue and mustard. This collection to me is a bit same/same, I don’t see much variation and even though it was cohesive it seemed a little boring. I can see it appealing to street style bloggers and personalities but I don’t think much of it will be seen on red carpets.

That’s just a few of the fashion shows I’ll be giving you a run down of! Which show has been your favourite so far?

Trend – Wedge booties.

Hello Readers,

As Summer fades away in the Northern Hemisphere, I for one am overjoyed. Here in Australia this winter was really cold and it’s still not warming up yet ( I have my fingers crossed for September!) While your all still working on your tans and enjoying your long summer holidays I thought for those who are keen for the winter woolies and darker colours I would do a debrief of a winter trend. A recent trend that’s come to my attention is the ankle wedge boot.

There must be something in the haute coutoure air as so many designers have released a take on the shoe. It’s my favourite ‘heeled’ boot for winter due to it’s practicality, you won’t be slipping through grates on the ground or getting your shoes stuck in muddy grass. Pair a tan or camel ankle wedge with midwash denim skinny’s and coloured patterned kimono to style and strut your stuff.
