NY, I love you!

Hello Readers,

A little more New York Spring/Summer fashion week for you! Check out my last post here! If I ever become a stylist or have anything to do with an awards show there are several haute designers I would go to and these three top my list! I can’t wait to see these dresses on some of the biggest stars come January and February for Awards season! Here are a few of my thoughts..

Carolina Herrera

Stop and smell the roses. The delicate pastel colours, combined with ladylike crop tops, skirts and dresses were beautiful. There were pretty embellishments, chiffon and ruffles. There was a modern twist with cut out lines and pleating. It all played on a similar theme that flowed throughout the whole show. Love, love and love!

Marchesa

Feathers, sparkle, tulle and everything of opulence was on call at the Marchesa show. Big, elaborate gowns walked down the runway and my heart raced a hundred miles an hour. I can just imagine how many of these will grace carpets. The only problem with the show was that it lacked a bit of cohesion. There were black gothic inspired gowns, romantic soft layered gowns and white jumpsuits. It was a bit all over the place.

Oscar De La Renta

Oscar, King of Red Carpet Dresses, did not disappoint. The runway was put together well with the focus on fiery red Mediterranean/Spanish inspired dresses paired with espadrilles and gowns with big bows in pastel colours completed with taffeta fabric. What tied two seemingly opposite inspirations together were tea length dresses with taffeta skirts and sexy bustier top, combining ladylike with a little bit of skin baring was a perfect mesh of different ideas. What a show!

Did you love these shows as much as I did?

New York, New York!

Hello Readers,

Every September marks the start of gloriously new fashion from the top designers around the world! My instagram, facebook and blog feeds have been inundated with the latest looks and I’m loving what I’m seeing. Here’s an overview of a few of the shows I’ve been able to find and fash-analyse!

Diane Von Furstenberg

Lots of girly, feminine fabrics and silhouettes. Bright colours like pinks and aqua green in boho prints. Also silky, draped chiffon playsuits embellished in gold. Fringe bags were held by models and they wore hippie sandals. A nice range I just can’t see a lot of it at press releases, red carpets and formal functions. While it’s not my style I love the embellished playsuits- you could wear them with tan leather accessories for a picnic or walk in the park.

DVF nyfw

Monique Lhuillier

BAM. Explosions of colour in floral prints. I’m personally a fan of a lot of colour and lovely little mini dresses so these looks were right up my alley. These were contrasted with block colour flowy ensembles, think long skirts and puffy sleeves. Jewel toned shifts were thrown into the mix. There were some stunning red carpet worthy dresses which stylists will want to take to their a-list clients so I’m sure we’ll see a lot of Monique dresses featuring soon. This show was very wearable and appealed to all ages, particularly I can imagine, younger stars

monique lhuillier

Victoria Beckham

Lots of earthy colours and gingham which made for interesting combinations. Flowing midi skirts in neutral colours were all over the runway and so were muscle tanks with various prints. She mixed it up with cool necklines and pops of royal blue and mustard. This collection to me is a bit same/same, I don’t see much variation and even though it was cohesive it seemed a little boring. I can see it appealing to street style bloggers and personalities but I don’t think much of it will be seen on red carpets.

That’s just a few of the fashion shows I’ll be giving you a run down of! Which show has been your favourite so far?

5 months old…and getting older, wiser and a little more fabulous.

Hello Readers,

How crazy is it when you reach milestones? Not the typical ‘It’s our 35 hour anniversary’ by a couple of fifteen year olds but proper, grown up anniversaries! The thing about anniversaries is that they remind you of how far you’ve come! Let’s uncork the champagne and open a tub of ice cream and settle in for this post.

I have to be honest I have really shared much about who I am in my posts (although hopefully my humour’s come through!) A little more about me.. I started this blog during this particular year as it’s my first year out of school. I always wanted to start a  fashion blog but never had time or wasn’t interesting enough or one of a hundred other excuses. But one day I did (I know your thinking ‘obviously’) But what I’ve realised is how much I love it.

I love walking down a street or reading a magazine or flicking through instagram and being inspired. Though fashion isn’t meant to be a ‘serious’ topic there are far more than a few amazing fashion bloggers who are proving the ‘haters’ wrong. What I love about fashion is how it can change someone’s confidence or show the world a little personality. Does it seem silly to type away about it? maybe. But I once styled a friend of mine after she spoke about how much she didn’t really like shopping – she didn’t think anything looked good on her. As corny as it is I was so happy when she liked the girl she saw in the mirror. That’s kind of when I knew that if I was going to start a blog it would be for everyone, not just talking about myself or celebrities or how to look a certain way but a bit of everything.

I wanted to thank all of you for subscribing or visiting or viewing. I honestly squealed when I saw that someone had liked a post for the first time. It was crazy that anyone would want to read what I was writing. Hopefully in the future I can improve my photography skills, I want to post some OOTD’s and just keep writing interesting stuff! If you have any suggestions write it down in the comment section!

Red Carpet Debrief – Teen Choice Awards 2015 Worst Dressed

Hello Readers,

Where there are winners there are bound to be losers. Regardless of getting a surfboard or not there are some tiny teen stars who didn’t quite dress for the occasion! Here are my 6 worst dressed of the night! Best Dressed coming soon…

Britney Spears

britney spears worst

Britney. Oh Britney. Not unfamiliar to the teen world but obviously to the changes in style she looks like she’s stuck at age eighteen. The dual coloured dye in her hair did nothing to convince me she has any style at all. The dress was too short and way too much cleavage was on display. However the strappy sandals and pretty fabric of the dress helped to redeem the look a little bit (okay not much but it was something!)

Bella Thorne

bella thorne worst

When your asking questions like ‘is it a dress or a long top?’ perhaps it’s time to change. While orange was a great colour on her and showed off her figure I can’t help but imagine how good an extra 15cm of fabric and straps would have done for the outfit. Her shoes, clutch and hair were all great choices for the carpet.

Lea Michele

Lea michele worst dressed teen choice

Argghhh that hair. Are you fifteen or twentyeight that is the question? I can forgive younger stars for their High- School-Musical-Sharpay hair but Lea’s been to enough carpets to know that the hair is just a little too juvenile. I wish that the whole dress had either been blue or red (I’m gunning for red as she’s wearing red heels) with a slick ponytail. Much more sophisticated.

Nina Dobrev

nina dobrev worst teen

Lots of pink sequins in different shades and black mesh fashioned into flame shapes? It shouldn’t work as well as it sounds but that’s not enough to save the dress. This, I think will divide some of you readers whether it should be on the best or worst post! My problem is that it looks more like a dance/ice skating costume than a stunning red carpet look and the gradient sequins are a bit dated. I also think I expect more from Nina and the overall look was just a bit ‘meh’.

Chloe Moretz

chloe moretz worst teen choice

I have an intense phobia of snakes and that’s why this look was probably always going to end up on my ‘worst’ dressed post. But come on? From a distance I thought she was holding a real live snake and that doesn’t look hot on anyone. The red lips, straight hair, black sandals and skirt part of the dress are great but the snake top isn’t fitted properly, a weird shade of green and I cannot get over how frightenly realistic the snake looks. It’s a no from me.

Willow Shields

willow smith worst dressed teen

Why does she have an oversized lego block around her waist? Is that a striped mat on her bottom half? Willow are you there amongst the strangely coloured fabric? Where is her stylist?! Her stylist needs to go to styling school. Nothing in this outfit suits her

BONUS Worst Dressed…

Alli Simpson

alli simpson

With no real claim to fame I’m ashamed as an Australian that this horrific outfit is one of the few representing us over in the US of A. I don’t know what she was thinking but the draping pants/fringe heels/black silky top/red bag/bad roots combination is not a winning one. I’m all for mixing it up on the carpet but tailored pants, a cute two piece or even a dressy romper would have done wonders. Gal pal it’s still a ‘red carpet’ not a trip to the shopping mall.

Do you agree or disagree?

Is it it a bag or an oversized keychain? #microbags

Hello Readers,

As far as trends go generally I’m happy to jump on the trend-train in some way, shape or form. But as for the microbag trend I’m not sure If this is one I’ll try or leave. Designers such as Fend, Dior, Tory Burch, Saint Laurent, Valentino and more have brought out mini bag. Most are either small replicas of their classic bags or a simple new design.

Despite being enamoured by the idea of a teensy tiny purse (I mean if you were rich enough and had a little girl you could buy one for her one for you – adorable!) but the reality of a bag so small meant the novelty died quickly. Having done my research most will barely fit more than an iphone 6, a couple of cards and maybe a lipstick. The problem is that we already have a practical, cheaper solution – hello designer wallets and coin purses?! So do you need or leave this trend?

As a cheaper alternative to a wallet I get it but unless you have money trees and can afford your regular sized designer bag having its own designer bag I would say save the money. It might seem like a good idea but if your looking for a regular sized designer bag, the microbags are starting at around $1000 so you may as well keep saving.

From huge, oversized bags to mini microbags can a designer please come out with an exciting regular sized bag?!

That’s my request of the day! Over and out,

Trend – Wedge booties.

Hello Readers,

As Summer fades away in the Northern Hemisphere, I for one am overjoyed. Here in Australia this winter was really cold and it’s still not warming up yet ( I have my fingers crossed for September!) While your all still working on your tans and enjoying your long summer holidays I thought for those who are keen for the winter woolies and darker colours I would do a debrief of a winter trend. A recent trend that’s come to my attention is the ankle wedge boot.

There must be something in the haute coutoure air as so many designers have released a take on the shoe. It’s my favourite ‘heeled’ boot for winter due to it’s practicality, you won’t be slipping through grates on the ground or getting your shoes stuck in muddy grass. Pair a tan or camel ankle wedge with midwash denim skinny’s and coloured patterned kimono to style and strut your stuff.

Style Files – Laura Marano

Hello Readers,

Laura Marano from the disney channel show, Austin & Ally, is one to watch. With the show approaching it’s final episode it’s a chance for Laura to star in new projects resulting in more red carpet appearances! I can’t wait to see whether she brings it or not!

Here are three of her top recent looks and one not so great look…

Top 3 Looks

2015 CMT Music Awards

I love this vampy look on Laura. During this year compared to the last couple she’s experimented with more grown up styles, less mini dresses and more jumpsuits. Love the pop of purple and the cut of the shoes make her look a little bit taller. The capelet is  so in right now and her loose waves are a nice contrast to the formality of the jumpsuit.

LM CMT music awards

Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards

I like how this outfit combines the girly style of a crop top and mini skirt with strong lines and ‘tough’ materials such as the leather of the crop. She’s kept it classy with just a little midriff showing. This outfit makes Laura’s legs look really long which is an advantage as she is on the shorter side. The bright red clutch is a nice addition.

LM skirt crop

Bad Hair Day Premiere

I cannot tell you enough how much I love the sherbet orange colour of Laura’s pants! The white crop and shoes keep the look light and I prefer it much more than if she had worn black or grey. The beachy hair works well with this relaxed look.

Worst Look

Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2015

This was a big misstep from Laura who often gets it right on red carpets. Her tan matched the orange carpet rather than looking like a summer glow and her hair is a little overstyled for the occasion, the big curls seem a little dated. While the colour of the dress was alright it wasn’t fitted properly and the material didn’t photograph well. It came across as a shiny ice skating dress.
